Admissions Policy

Please read our Admissions policy below which gives details of our admissions criteria for the academic year 2025-26.

Determined Admission Arrangements Notice 2025/26 In accordance with Regulation 17 of the School Admissions Regulations 2012, admission arrangements must be formally determined by the responsible admission authority.

The Governing Body of St Thomas’ CE Primary School hereby formally determine the admission arrangements for the academic year of entry 2025/26.

Admission arrangements In accordance with Regulation 21 of the Regulations and Section 88 of the SSFA 1998, any person or body who considered that any maintained school or Academy’s arrangements are unlawful, or not compliant with the Code or relevant law relating to admissions, can make an objection to the Schools Adjudicator.

Reception - the start of the day

Welcome to Early Years

Nursery Places

We have 26 places in our Nursery class and we admit children in the September after their third birthday. We have a gradual settling in process during the Autumn term. Parents wishing to apply for a nursery place should complete the Nursery Application Form and return it to the school office. Places will be allocated in line with our published admissions criteria. Following changes to government funding, all children are entitled to 15 hours free nursery care.

You may be entitled to a government childcare voucher for an additional 15 hours. Please visit www.childcarechoices.gov.uk for further information and to check whether you are eligible for 30 hours free childcare.

Reception Places

There are 30 places in Reception class. Parents wishing to apply for a Reception place must complete the Reception Place Common Application Form for the borough in which you reside and return it to the admissions team in your home Local Authority. If, after considering our Admissions criteria and you have a Christian religious affiliation that will support your child’s application, you must also complete our Supplementary Information Form and return it to the school office by the closing date which is Wednesday 15th January 2026.

Places will be allocated in line with our published admissions criteria.

In-Year admissions

There are 30 places in each year group from years 1 to 6. Parents must apply to the local authority at the town hall (please follow this link) If, after considering our Admissions criteria and you have a Christian religious affiliation that will support your child’s application, you must also complete our Supplementary Information Form and return it to the school office.

It is rare that places arise, if a place is not available at the time of application, your child will be placed on our waiting list.

Secondary school transfer

As your child reaches Year 6, we aim to support families through the transition to secondary education. The formal transfer process begins in the Autumn term of Year 6.

Key Dates For September 2026 Entry

  • 1st September 2025: Online applications open via your home Local Authority.

  • September – October 2025: Secondary school open days and evening events take place.

  • 31st October 2025: National closing date for on-time secondary applications.

  • 2nd March 2026: National Offer Day (outcomes are sent via email or post).

The Application Process

Parents must apply for a secondary school place through the borough in which they reside. You are encouraged to list at least four to six schools in order of preference.

Visit secondary school websites to view their prospectuses and virtual tours.

Check the specific admissions policy for each school, as some (such as faith schools) may require an additional Supplementary Information Form (SIF).

Complete the Common Application Form (CAF) online by the October deadline to ensure your application is considered in the first round of offers.
